FROM INDUSTRIAL ENGINEER TO COFFEE ROASTER

Gerardo A. Ramos Vivas grew up in Honduras, where his father and grandfather operated a coffee farm in the Montecillos coffee region. He has traveled extensively throughout his home country, exploring countless coffee farms. As a result, he now knows the country like the back of his hand. Gerardo moved to Cincinnati in 2009 and before becoming a coffee roaster, he worked as an industrial engineer at Toyota. He taught himself how to roast coffee and began roasting out of his apartment. In 2020, he founded Viva Coffee Roasters and started selling his incredible curated coffee beans online.

MICRO ROASTERY, MACRO IMPACT

In November of 2023, Gerardo opened a brick-and-mortar micro roastery in the charming O'Bryonville neighborhood! He is passionate about brining Honduran coffee to Cincinnati - a city he is proud to call home. During his time in Honduras, he has earned honest relationships with the families who grow the beans he now sources for his coffee. In fact, all his coffee beans are sourced from 5 coffee farms across 3 regions of Honduras!

A LOOK INSIDE VIVA COFFEE ROASTERS

The walls of the coffee shop are beautifully decorated in the story of Gerardo's journey to today and educate on the complex, yet rewarding, process behind each cup of coffee.

Viva has a specialized drinking menu of cold & hot espresso, drip coffee, pour over, and tea. They also have a variety of bites to pair with your beverage. Gourmet toasts that feature thick cuts of Blue Oven Bakery's delicious sourdough, croissants from Boosalis Baking, and banana bread & muffins from The Confection Bar.

MY GO-TO ORDER

My go-to order at Viva really depends on the weather. When it's a cold, rainy, day I opt for their Huertas drip coffee - a dark roast with rich notes of vanilla and red berries that pairs perfectly with a blueberry ricotta toast. On a hot sunny day, I'll get the iced La Familia drip coffee (also a dark roast) with a touch of oat milk to complement the natural chocolate and berry flavors of the brew. I'm a huge dark roast guy but if that's not your forte, Viva has a great selection of curated light and medium roast coffees!

Be sure to check out their website for their full selection of coffees and follow them on Instagram to keep up to date with seasonal specials!
